On April 19, 2018, the Council of the Borough of Watchung passed a resolution to abolish the Watchung Borough Public Library.

Keep a Library in Watchung is an unincorporated association of concerned citizens of the Borough of Watchung that filed a lawsuit against the Borough of Watchung, the Council of the Borough of Watchung, and the Administrator of the Borough of Watchung on June 1, 2018, to challenge the closure of the library.
